thanks for the bday wishes everyone. was a fun night, to be sure.

no, i have no experience programming max/msp. well, i worked through the tutorials, but then decided it wasn't for me at the time. maybe i'll come back around to it. i plan on using the max/msp apps that peeps made for the monome (and more will come, i'm sure). i hope to have fun with that and record the output, then work with that. i also wanna use the monome just as a matrix to fire clips from Live. both methods should prove quite useful, i'm sure.

With your programming background, I think you'd rock MAX/MSP, but you'd need to go into it knowing you wouldn't be immediately productive. You could, however, build a composition and performance environment that was perfectly tailored to your musical vision and work methods.

i agree, scott. i liked max/msp when i was using it. it seemed fun to me and still does right now. when i tried it, i wasn't using a computer at all for music (and had just gotten my first mac) but wanted to. and it just wasn't the way i wanted to work. plus i hadn't yet discovered the beauty that is Live.

i hate to put a bunch of time preparing to have something useful instead of just writing. but i've been in a major musical slump the past six months so maybe it's time to give it another shot. we'll see what happens...
