4 2.5ghz cores spread over 2 processors. 8Gb of RAM. WOW! I threw everything I could at it, and I couldn't even phase the thing. I was getting very frustrated with my 1.4ghz/1.5Gb G4, so it was time to move on.

I was going to wait for the new Intel based towers, but I figured it would be years before the new platform was bug-free. It took them long ebough just to get OSX optimized correctly, so I forsee years of headaches with the new Intels.

I used XBench to compare my CPU's. The G4 scored a 41, the G5 scored a 176. This may be the best investment I've made to my studio. Being held back by CPU was annoying as hell. Next week my 30" Cinema display will be here to complement my new CPU.

I use digital performer and it uses all 4 cores, so I highly recommend any DP users to splurge on this thing.

I'm not saying you did the wrong thing...but I use an Intel Based Mac and it has been wonderful. Congrats on your new machine...at least it will always be the fastest G5!!!

I always stay a year behind the curve as well - I recently got an imac G5 right when the intels came out for a super deal. Its nice when everything works as it should, and I do not really need any brand new features right away. I am patient.

are the fans loud on that thing? My dual G4 was loud as hell. 4 seems like it has the potential to be deafening, but then again my imac is dead quiet.

it seems to me that its the laptop/notebook early adopters who really get the shit-end of the stick

battery issues, cpu issues related to battery issues, heat issues, cpu issues related to heat issues ..... hacks to get full performance etc....

my iMactel has worked like a charm, & down the line I'd like an Mactel tower...I think I'll wait for the 2nd generation. Too much dough to drop only for your tower to start leaking green goop all over your MD

I was worried about that too, but apparently this thing is liquid cooled. It's almost silent, and it exhausts less heat than my G4 did. When you open the CPU and remove the front fan, you expose a part that looks like a radiator from a car. The case itself in front of the fan is cool to the touch like it's blowing out air conditioning. Pretty cool.

My MacBook has seriously run flawlessly.

cool...is that the new mactel macbook ?

do you find it gets really hot during use ?
