The screen looks awful. It's tiny! How can you edit samples on there?

horses for courses...

I bet its dope for making hip-hop on the bus. and later on hopefully some neat circuit bending potential for killing samples.

obviously, if you are looking for something in the studio - there's better options.

thanks for posting

The same way you do it on a Roland SP-404? or Yamaha SU10?

Ugh! Look at all that plastic!
It's garish.

I prefer my brushed aluminum MDUW over this, any day!

That app for the PSP beats the 500 in portability, too.

Anything special about it?

Well, is it really fair to compare the design of a $1600 machine vs. a $750 machine? The reason it is made out of plastic is for weight concerns...since it is battery operated. Also, PSP beats is not on par with the MPC specs wise... so it is not fair to compare the PSP and that app to a machine that most likely will have at least 32 tracks for midi sequencing...and a ton of sampling time. Not to mention real time controls....like pads etc.

gah! one of my major peeves of online discussion is when people make unrealistic comparisons. Like asking 'got any tips for getting a nice bass from my monomachine' and getting this as a reply 'get a memorymoog'

no shit you prefer your mduw!...but good luck carrying your mduw around in your backpack so you can make some beats on the bus, between classes at college, smokin a spliff down at the beach....etc!

as for the PSP beating it on portability.....I dont know where to start. well like jsrockit said, you got no pads! and have you tried making music on your psp ?....it fucking SUCKS. give me a portable mpc in overdub mode any day of the week. you get to play the beats on your mpc, and it records it.....so you dont have to look at anything really. making music with a psp is more like programming music on your psp (ALOT of screen watching)...which is fine, but i would definatly prefer some kind of portable drum-pad thing. enter mpc500.

seriously folks....its a portable mpc first and foremost, not a budget sampler for your studio. and fuck the psp for making tunes, unless someone brings out some pads for the psp.

: )
Re: Akai MPC-500 Pics 18 Years ago
If its real... it?s a certain buy, whatever the specs is. I really dont have the money to buy a mduw and as a sampler this one must be good... the uw is a whole other pruduct and i could afford a mpc500+macbook non-pro for a uw...

Any real sources from Akai or just internet gibberish of the mpc500??

http://mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=54051&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=105

and a small piece of www.musicthing.co.uk, which links to that thread above.

so ya...its internet gibberish!

I started reading the thread from half way, seems a few people are pissed that akai are making these budget products and doing nothing about bugs on the more expensive units, like the mpc4000.

I agree with them, that practise blows.

It's not about horses for courses though! A decent screen is nice to have whether you're in the park or in the studio. Look at all the empty space around the LCD! Akai *could* have easily fitted something decent in there, but it would seem that they chose not to - probably to stop themselves undercutting the 1k.
