I think it is time for me to get some quality cables... I live in the US, I don't want to make my own, and was wondering what brand names I should be looking for? or if anyone who is making their own quality cables is selling some?
I use Mogami cable with Neutrik connectors but I make my own. But of course you can get pre-made ones. In the U.S. Guitar Center and Musician's Friend carries them.
Ok, I'm not looking to spend $40 per cable...where 10 cables will cost me $400. However, there has to be something better than Hosa. Where's the middle ground? Anyone familar with the lower range of supposedly "high end" cables from this site?
Yea, I hear ya on spending $400 on cables. I've been on a year-long cable replacement strategy, buying just a couple a month, searching for deals. The Planetwaves stuff is pretty nice, been using it on my guitar rig for about a year now. The connectors fit very firmly and don't move around or crackle - cable looks top notch.
i'm in the same mindset as you JS, but at the end of the day I think that it doesn't make sense to have really nice gear (i.e. elektrons, etc.) and then not use really nice cables. it's like having an amazing stereo and connecting lame/bad speakers to it.
that being said, i like Allerian's idea of buying a few or couple every month rather than doing it all at once and seeing a $400 tag. Then again, maybe there are places that offer discounts on bulk?
I suppose, like most things, there is a premium to be paid on purchasing constructed things rather than going the DIY route. I'm surprised DIY cablers on this board have never offered their wares for purchase. . . :-D
Well, I'm not sure hosa cables are the equivilent of bad speakers / great system...but I should step it up. I may drop $100 on some soon and see what I think.
