The automap concept seems like it should have been implemented a long time ago, it's a no brainer in retrospect Let the machines talk and agree on their communications scheme, and let me make music. However, it depends on native support in the host application so that introduces its own share of problems. I guess that soon there will be different controllers by different manufacturers which support automapping...that will be a good time for everybody
Faderfox: cool concept, too expensive for what they are. I'll probably just rip off their layout and build a midibox that incorporates 4 or 5 of those things, for about $100. yeah i'm really looking forward to see how this will work with Live!
Novation Remote25... its ok but its a bit cheap feeling when you're using it. I wish you could get a midi controller made out of solid steel, something you could throw off a cliff and it'd make a huge crater and still work perfectly afterwards.
A friend just passed this on to me - the Monome. Looks very interesting. USB only though - so you'd have to go through a computer (sounds like there's a mapping program to set everything up).
