using sfx6 and trigger finger as controllers now....one day I dream of building a fancy custom MIDIBOX controller that is set up for some kind of crazy Ableton Live mapping, with some buttons, switches, levers, pulleys, and a couple of those leg harnesses from the gynecologist's office.

i have knobs: BCR2000, pads: triggerfinger & keys: evolution mk249c

and i'd like to check out the new novation remote SL's when they will support 'automapping' with Live. check: http://www.novationmusic.com/automap/ (also in last month's SOS)

These look ok for Live...depending on your needs:

That is very neat. Pricey though. I'm dreaming of building a midibox as well. I'm just about finished with my mini-synth then it's on to the two compressors, first.

SL with automap looks very cool. The automap concept seems like it should have been implemented a long time ago, it's a no brainer in retrospect Let the machines talk and agree on their communications scheme, and let me make music. However, it depends on native support in the host application so that introduces its own share of problems. I guess that soon there will be different controllers by different manufacturers which support automapping...that will be a good time for everybody

Faderfox: cool concept, too expensive for what they are. I'll probably just rip off their layout and build a midibox that incorporates 4 or 5 of those things, for about $100.
