Less slacking and more spending please. I'm all for exercising my rights to be a good consumer, but there just isn't anything out there that cool to buy.

I feel the same way, but then again...the MDUW and MnM are so versatile and offer so many options that I don't feel that way.

Maybe there isn't anything that cool and affordable to buy, but there is plenty of amazing equipment out there.

However, my current set-up allows me to make music in the way I really want to...so, with that in mind, it informs my views of other gear. I know what I would use and what would sit around at this point. I also know what would distract me from accomplishing anything. Sure, there is a lot of cool shit, but nothing worth buying for my needs and skill level...and it isn't about lack of cash. I could buy nicer stuff, but it just isn't going to benefit my music at this point.

I am not talking specifically of sound generating gear, but more about processing. There is always another EQ, comp, pre-amp, effects unit, etc that would easily help make all my gear a bit better with no learning curve or lessened productivity.
I understand you about sticking with a system that works and not getting too G.A.S.-sy - especially if music is getting written. I personally just find the music process gets more enjoyable, and hence I write better music when a simple element helps my sound get more refined.
When I bought the API 2500, I wrote 3 tracks in a row over a couple weekends (which is a lot for me) just because the tone I got out of this comp was so inspiring.
I am not trying to say you or anyone else should have constant gear lust, I just think it is a bit silly to say that there is no good gear out there that would benefit your music.
If there is not gear that is worth the cost, that is a different story.
All in all, I understand you JSR. I also feel a stability in my setup which has tamed any gear lust. But if someone were to offer me a cheap Culture Vulture, or a couple of cheap Distressors, I would snatch them up in a second.

Oh...COM, believe me... I do have that kind of stuff in mind, but we generally don't talk of pre-amps and stuff of that nature here. I will be buying a new pre-amp soon (Daking or Great River). And when I say that there is no good gear that would benefit my music, that is not from the standpoint that I think my music does not need help...it is quite the opposite. I feel I need to really keep using the stuff I have to make my music / recording / mixes better... since it is good enough and I haven't maxed out its potential. So what I'm really trying to say is that I don't feel like spending the money now...I'm not dying to get something.

I TOTALLY agree with jsrockit. Whenever I get a GAS attack I always try to think about the way the new gear could benefit my music, compared to the gear I already have. Since using this "philospohy" I've really started focusing on the tools I already have and as a consequence I believe the quality of my music has improved enormously. New gear can be really distracting sometimes.
