i don´t get it, why analog osc but a digital filter? if it is that way it doesn´t make any sense to me, especially since elektron made a top notch digital synth with the monomachine, which also had the most sophisticated p-locks (if i remember it right, every step could have a totally different set of p locks. for example: pitchstep one was modulated by LFO 3 with a sawwave, the same modulation on step twi could be applied to filter but with another LFo/wave and so forth, sadly the OT lacks here)

whatever, i buy it nonetheless

I thought about this myself - perhaps Elektron have done some interesting stuff with the VCO though, e.g. wavefolders and multipliers, etc. That would then make sense to me. If it's a vanilla set of VCOs though, I'm not so sure.

this was my initial thought but then I realized that you already got a market full of analog synths with more and more are comming every day...just too much of the same

also: by having a digital filter stage you can have way more filter types, even very odd ones, and of course it´s easily upgreadable

I think it´s an unusual design but I did this kind of things in the past with great results, I mean, to pass analog oscillator thru the filters of the MnM and MD...sounds very good even with unmatched levels and the like...a more normalized implementation has to be even better

Yeah, i know, and you have to push that combo so much, I wonder why there is no dedicated button for it.

It's all too easy to accidentally push a "reload" and lose all of your work of the last half hour.

and and and...

One reason would be so they could do more types of filter (LP, HP, BP, Comb) more easily and could have the multiple filters in parallel etc. This kind of thing is extremely expensive in real analog circuitry.

To be fair the filter models on the octatrack were one of the best things about it so as long as the new machine has lots of routing & lfo options for filters & FX Ill be happy.

Personally I'd like to know what the osc voice architecture will be, will it be pure analog oscs or a combi of analog & digital like the DSI evolver.

Maybe an analog LP and other types in digital format?... as seen in the Spectralis. When the word analog is thrown around I don't tend to think analog oscillators, but that could be me. I suppose analog could refer to the cv as well.

the spectralis is four digital oscillators with two types of analogue filter which you can spilt into two separate synths (trigger groups) if you wish.

The advantage of having analogue oscillators is a higher harmonic frequency range without any aliasing, most VA synths cleverly dampen the sound in the higher octaves to avoid this.
Not sure about the digital filter although if done right (with an overdrive/saturation stage) it could work quite well if you can live without a decent self oscillation resonance. The Ion and Quasimidi filters do a very good job but if your going to make it analogue why not go the whole hog like DSI or waladorf?

I’m still interested how a p/lock sequencer will work with the external CV out and a more extensive sequencer FX's than on the Monomachine would be nice.

Anyhowz where does it say digital filters? Is there any proper spec release yet?
