Tempest is surface mount synth-on-a-chip technology, Doug Curtis designed.

Unless elektron have produced their own silicon or made a deal somewhere, they would have to use discrete smt like moog.

I think it is a joystick because in the Analog Four "The Demon Who Wears Me" short, Hector is covering something on the left side of the Analog Four at 5:20 and at 5:26 it looks like his left hand is manipulating something on the left side of the Analog Four as it effects the audio being heard, although I am sure the audio was not the result of his hand movements and it is highly likely the audio was recorded separately, maybe it is symbolically related but there is definitely a mystery to be solved on the left side...ENHANCE around that tree...

If they're talking tradition, I hope it's this kind of joystick tradition.

Well, I really don't want to be so pricey: personally it would make a big difference between
getting it and don't getting it.
I also don't think they'll step over the €1300 mark: it is already a premium price, more would not be competitive.
I believe that if Arturia can have a margin over the Minibrute, Elektron could make a good profit by keeping it in the same price range as the other machines.

Well, there are a few other analog synth component ICs besides the Curtis ones. you can also get FPAA (field-programmable analog arrays, which can be reconfigured on the fly for different functions), and it's possible to have small custom ICs made in lots of 1000 or so; the first batch costs about $30,000 and up, but after that the price-per-unit falls to a few $ (or Euro in Elektron's case...you'd probably need to go to Germany for that).

Discrete SMT is probably cheapest, though.

It will be interesting to see what they've used .
I'm hoping it's an original design.
