Woah, be careful with ur words there! I agree the UK is gettin shit but don't wish yourself to be over in the US. The main reason that England is getting worse and worse is to do with the "Americanisation" of everything over here.
The grass may seem greener on the other side, I've been over there they've got some really nice places but I bet if you lived there it'd be a different matter. Just remember that America is the king of commercialization and advertising etc, it's due to this nature why the people at soundcontrol wanna rob your money so much so just imagine the state of affairs over there where literally almost everyone is just tryin to brainwash you for your cash.
England hasn't quite got to that state yet
So, the 'commercialization and advertising' of America are the reason for SoundControl wanting to ripoff people in the UK. Give me a break! I have bought tons of gear for the better part of my life from dealers far and wide all over this country and have never had the problems that have been discussed in this thread.
I actually discussed this with some people from the UK over at VSE a couple of weeks ago. The UK seems to be rife with con artists, especially where musical instrument deals go. I'm not sure why that is, but it seems to be a problem. I had someone in London try to rip me off for about $3k for a synth a couple of years back. Luckily, I caught on to it just in time. Strangely, I also had some fraudulent company rip me off for some football tickets when I was there a few years ago.
That being said, I wouldn't go so far as to damn the entire UK and its culture. I love London. One of my favorite cities in the world, there's probably only two cities in this country that can even come close to it when it comes to culture (LA is not one of them!). But ya got some shysters over there. Every place in the world has its pros and cons.Lol, I knew I'd have pissed some people off on that last post, sorry! I Guess I did phrase what I meant quite badly . Didn't really want to start some mass debate thing :-D
I agree with you that we do have shytsters over here, the general attitude of some people in britain makes you unable to walk down the street sometimes without feeling like someones gonna try n kill ya. I hate that about England I wish we were more like the US in that sense because everyone seems so friendly. Like you said every place in the world has it's pros and cons though, and I've been ripped off in America for an iPod nano when they first came out.
I think it's like monojim said

Whilst the US of A is indeed the primary exponent of the practice and ideology of capitalism and the free market, a system that arguably encourages profit at the expense of everything else including a fair deal, you can get ripped off anywhere in the world by anybody of any shape or size. It's people who are mean not necessarily places or ideas. So it'd be unfair to say that England's just full of fraudsters cos I'm sure there's many people who do just the same in the US, just in a nicer more seemingly polite manner!
