OT X 2 TECHNICS dj set 11 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi everybody...

I would kindly like to know if any of you already try to substitute your mixer with an OT and playing with the crossfade between the 2 turntables....

Maybe it is a stupid question but I was wondering where I am going to put the ground of my 2 Technics if I don't use my dj mixer...

Thanks a lot

You'd need a phono preamp - this is usually built into a dj mixer.
You will need one for each turntable, and these are powered devices so you'll need a total of 5 electrical outlets.
The turntables (phono signal) will plug into the preamps, and a line-level signal will come out and go into the OT.

It's not only about grounding and amplification, the turntables by default have a very unique eq curve that the premp corrects for (its called RIAA eq curve if you want to learn more).

cool idea.

Thanks Jeffe !

So I still need my mixer to be integrated into dj set.....

So then I have to use the out of my mixer into the OT, instead if I would like to use the crossfade between my turntables?

I think that I NEED 2 mixers probably....

Thanks

Some turntables have built-in RIAA preamps and provide line-level outputs, e.g. Numark TTX. I don't believe any of the Tech 12s are among them.

You don't need 2 mixers really, just 2 phono preamps.

You can pick these up for about £30

(or pay a bit more for better quality ones)

Or if you have a Dj mixer with a cue output. Pre fade one deck through that and listen to the other through the main output. Hopefully they balance up ok, not totally sure, just an idea.

Edit . Or a Dj mixer with aux sends.

Thx Wascal ! I was not aware about that...

Basically connect the technics into the phono preamp and then the out of the preamp into the Octatrack...

I am already imagining to use my Ot instead of the classic mixer together with my 2 turntable....

It will be much and much better.....

Thanks

if you specifically buy a phono preamp it'll always have ground between the inputs just like DJ mixers do.
