Your favorite headphones? 2 Years, 1 Month ago
Hey guys,

after a little music/forum/whatever hiatus I'm back at making tunes.
For that mater I'm looking to get new headphones since my current ones are not that great anymore.

Right now I'm using Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro's. I generally like them for their comfort and their overall sound. But I feel that I never get the bass right when wearing them. So I'm not sure if I should get the same model again.

Any recommendations?
Don't know what the appropriate English term is but they should surround the whole ear and not sit on it. I guess you know what I mean

Cheers.

I recently got some sennheiser HD650s and I think they're amazing. They have to be amped properly though.

Thanks for the tip.
Do you use an extra amp when on the go, then?
I'd probably need to plug them directly into some gear as well.

I picked up an AKG K702 on sale last year.

link

- Transparent response, yet spacious feeling
- Really nice long cable
- Comfortable to wear for extended periods of time (at least to me)

+1 for the HD650s (I have a pair of 600s, but the 650s are just a newer version). The whole frequency range has a great response - full figured but very even. Perfect for edits, detailing & reference while you mix.

Pioneer HDJ-1000 ... acquired these for live work,
although they seem ok for studio.

IMO they're fine with pro audio gear, for example with the Octatrack & co, but they certainly need amping with portable music players...

Edit: By the way Sennheiser apparently updated the HD650 drivers a while back making them easier to power so a lot of the talk about them requiring a lot of power is probably now redundant. I'm really happy with mine...
