Machinedrum UW Ram record/play 15 Years, 7 Months ago
Hello guys!

This is my first post. Yesterday i got my machinedrum. Ive been playing around with it for a while but i just cant get the ram record/play function get to work. I read the manual and did exactly what was in there, but it didnt work

Obviously im doing something wrong. I put a Ram-R1 on a trigger (lets say the 10th), and ram-P1 on 11. So i play a simple loop, press the record button and select ram-r1 with the round wheel. Then i trigger the first step , play the loop, and trigger it off. When i now go to the ram-p1 and trigger it, no sound is coming out. Im doing something wrong, but what?

edit: already got it, was something wrong with the parameters from the RAM-R1 =)

Track 10: R1
Track 11: P1

R1: If resampling set MLEV=0, If sampling from inputs set ILEV=0.
Press REC and place a trig on first 1/16.
NOTE track 10 (R1) must not be muted or else no sampling.
track 11 (P1) I usually keep muted so I dont get feeback when resampling (try it).

P1: Press REC and place a trig on first 1/16.
Mute tr10 and unmute tr11.

You should hear what you just sampled.

R1: If resampling set MLEV=0, If sampling from inputs set ILEV=0.

Huh ?!...

I would have said :

If resampling set MLEV>0
If sampling from inputs set MLEV=0 and ILEV>0.

Am I "aux fraises", as french say ?...

If you set MLEV and ILEV at 0 for sampling external imput, you'll have md pattern + the external sound in your recorded sample , am I wrong ?

Are there any good demos about for the RAM machine anyone?

Still can't get my head around how it works exactly (or if its worth selling up my SPS-1)

Am I right in thinking the loop is broken into 16 slices which are turned on/off with the step buttons or triggered from the start on each step until its triggered again?

The sample is played back from the start of each step on which it is triggered - It doesn't chop it into 16 slices.

However, the RAM playback machine start / end parameters can be easily tweaked to 'chop' the sample in whatever way you desire with parameter locks. OR you can assign LFO's to start time, retrigger frequency etc - it can get pretty wild!

These days, I have been trying the LFO on the start paramater of a RAM PLAY machine, with the hold paramater set to the time of a step. The idea was to chop a sample, without the loooong parameter locking. I first thought about programming a G2 patch, but then got a flash : MDUW's LFOs...

But... I could not get a perfectly continuous playing of the sample. There is always a kind of gap, not always at the beginning.

Here are the settings I remember (I have not my MDUW on right now) ; can anybody tell me where I am wrong ?...

RAM RECORDING machine :
length : 64.

RAM PLAYING machine :
LFO 2 set to ascending saw (Mix at 128),
Rate = 2,
Depth = 64
Dest = Start parameter of the current track
Trig mode = Hold or Trigger

START = 64
END = 128
HOLD = 8

I think that is all the necesary.

I think this question deserves its own topic...
